Project Information

Project Description

Two are the major objectives of the project. They are described below together with the corresponding operational requirements:

1. Integration and demonstration of an Internet based Server (the Cretan TOURnet Server) which uses advanced multimedia technologies to promote the tourism offerings of Crete and to fully support the requirements for promotion, information access, and financial transactions for all the tourism-related SMEs of Crete. The implementation and integration steps will follow the guidelines of Action 1 project (INTOURISME) and will use the advanced existing infrastructure and multimedia information bases which has been described in section Qualitative Description of the project Technical Annex.

2. Dissemination and Deployment of the advanced services to a large number of tourism-related SMEs of all categories in the Region of Crete and evaluation of the results.

The major SME types of the Region, on which Cretan TOURnet will focus, are:

• Accommodation Units,

• Travel Agents,

• Vehicle Rental Companies,

• Transportation Companies,

• Small Industries producing tourism-related products, and

• Restaurants and Entertainment Companies.
