Project Information
Project Description
KIWIS has substantially contributed in meeting the key requirements for establishing an environment that combines the deductive power of logic programming with the data management capabilities of large relational databases, in a multi-paradigm way using object-oriented techniques, logic programming, rule-based formalisms etc.
The project mainly focused on the development of:
- advanced programming languages based on logic,
- access protocols to federated database architectures,
- and extentable user friendly graphical interfaces.
KIWIS is a knowledge-base management system that can be used simultaneously either as a sophisticated stand-alone personal knowledge machine supporting knowledge-based applications or as an integrator of information coming from a wide variety of sources, including local knowledge bases.
MUSIC/TUC was responsible for the design and implementation of OVM, a Virtual Object Machine capable of managing complex data using the object-oriented paradigm and exploiting the very large main memories of the current and future computer systems.
