3. HiPerSciMA: Enterprice Programmes for Research and Technologies (EPET II)-Programme for Enhancing Research Manpower (PENED)

HiPerSciMA is a basic research programme. It belongs in the Programme for Enhancing Research Manpower (PENED) and the Enterprice Programmes for Research and Technologies (EPET ÉÉ) of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT). The objectives of the project are the exploitation, adaptation and evaluation of new parallel systems' software technologies in order to satisfy the enormus CPU and memory requirements of practical applications , using three platforms for the parallel computations: cache coherenet non-uniform access architectures, low-cost architectures based on clusters of PCs attached to high bandwidth networks, and broad area architectures based on the Internet.

2. SICMA: Scalable Interactive Continuous Media Server Design and Application (ACTS #071)

The general aim of the SICMA project is to design a scalable server for the delivery of images, data and continuous multimedia information and to demonstrate its efficiency by applying it to a relevant application, namely the so called "Virtual Museum".

1. HERMES: Foundations of High Performance Multimedia Information Management Systems

HERMES is an EC-funded project that will address and solve the fundamental software problems inherent in the design and implementation of these information systems.

Important common features of these information systems include the diversity of multimedia data types, the delay-sensitivity and resulting real-time requirements for accessing multimedia objects, the large size of multimedia objects, and their coordinated presentation in space and time. Such features create formidable challenges, which any software solution must confront.
